Accelerated Learning Program (ALP)
Program Description: Modeled after the Community College of Baltimore County's Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), this program is designed to allow students to complete a remedial writing course while they are simultaneously enrolled in a college-level composition course taught by the same faculty member. ALP increases retention and reduces delays in time to completion.
ALP Deliverables
ENG 051 - Developmental English and ENG 121 - College-Level Composition have been organized for delivery in an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) format. ENG 051 is a developmental companion course to ENG 121 and provides intensive instruction and practice in writing clear sentences, paragraphs, and essays for specific audiences. The course emphasizes the planning, drafting, and revision process in writing as well as instruction in grammar, mechanics, and usage. In addition, ENG 051 explores student success strategies, library literacy, and fluency in both oral and written presentations. ENG 121 is a college-level course designed to enhance writing, research, and speaking skills. This course provides academic writing and reasoning skills to foster lifelong learning.
